To use Cloudflare to deploy your projects, you will need an Account ID and ApiKey from Cloudflare. Here is how to get them.
First, sign up for a Cloudflare account. A free account is fine.
Get Account ID
- In the left tab, expand Compute (under Build)
- Select Workers & Pages
- You'll find your Account ID in the Account Details section.
- Copy it and put it somewhere safe.
Get API Key
Go to https://dash.cloudflare.com/profile/api-tokens.
- Click + Create Token, then Create Custom Token Get Started
- Token name: can be anything, e.g. “myToken”
- Permissions: Account → Cloudflare Pages → Edit
- Account Resources: Include → your account
- Leave the client IP filtering and TTL blank, or restrict them if you like.
- Click Continue to summary, then Create Token.
- Copy the token right away and put it somewhere safe. Cloudflare shows it only once. If you lose it, you’ll have to roll or recreate it.
Save Account ID and API Key in AppStudio
- In AppStudio, go into Preferences
- Go to the VoltServer tab
- Paste in the Account ID and API Key
Tips for looking after your API Key
An API key is a password to an online service. Like any password, you should keep it secure. Here are a few tips, not just for your Cloudflare API key, but for any API key.
- Restrict it as much as possible, so it can only be used for the specific task you need. You can set it to expire after a fixed time, and restrict its use to your own IP.
- Do not upload your API key into the cloud. Do not save it in your code, send it in email, or your GitHub repository. There are roving bots constantly looking for these keys.
- If you suspect your key has been leaked, roll it to a new value right away in the Cloudflare site, then post that to AppStudio Preferences. It only takes a minute.
AppStudio saves your API key into an encoded preferences file. It does not upload it. The key is used in the commands AppStudio sends to Cloudflare. These calls are made over HTTPS, so they are secure.
